5 kind of feministic tv shows

I made a comment on facebook recently to Hanna (who runs the site Feministbiblioteket) promising to write a list of good feminist tv-shows to watch. I thought I might as well turn it in to a blog post. So, here you are, enjoy:

Absolutely Fabulous (1992-2011) - Classical British sitcom with and by Jennifer Saunders. It’s about how to behave or not behave, breaking taboo’s and being inappropriate vulgar. There’s no important male characters in the entire series.

Brothers and Sisters (2006-2011) - Great actors, follows five grown up siblings with their families and relationships. It deals with issues like gay marriage, adoption, surrogate motherhood, careers and family life. It’s a good mix of republicans, conservatives, personal freedom and a liberal point of view. Everything mixed with a big portion of love. Might be the best one on this list.

The Good Wife (2009-) - Centered around Alicia who starts her career as a lawyer after 40 and two teenage kids. Decent and fresh in every way. Ongoing.

Caprica (2009-2010) - Spin-off from Battlestar Galactica (also a good series). Sci fi, artificial intelligence, religion and Eve. The female characters are portrayed as mysterious and sexy - but are also the smartest and with the highest moral compass.

Mad Men (2007-) - In an elegant way, the show manages to make the struggle of working women in the 60’s visible. You will get angry, but the episodes are very well written and the esthetic’s are beautiful.

Other shows worth mentioning: Glee (for the portrayal of Santana). 30 Rock, Buffy, Lip Service and Damages.

All the series passes the Bechdel test flawlessly.
